Some Greener Thoughts on Earth Day
Hi Everybody!
One more earth day and we have to repledge to save our dear mother earth so that we can have a better tomorrow and can live healthily in days to come.
Here are some greener thoughts and suggestions to make our planet a better place to live in.
-
Minimize use of paper. When you check your email, take a printout only if it is that much necessary. Try proof reading of documents you created on screen itself instead of taking a printout for it. For rough work, use the already used but damaged or discarded paper. Notices, announcements etc with one side blank can be reused for this purpose.
Reduce use of paper-cups and plates, the damage produced by the increased use and production of paper cups is more than a little use of water to clean the reusable cups and plates.
The disposable plastic cups are more dangerous and so totally avoid them.
- Use public transportationand greener vehicles instead of going
alone in your own car. Walking and cycling are good exercises for health as well as earth. When going alone- walk when the distance is small; Use bicycle when the distance is a little more and use (electric) bikes (or the other) when the distance is still more. Use car when atleast more than two have to go to the same place. Club your plans to avoid multiple travels. Friends going together in one car is a better idea.
- Save electricity – Switch off electric appliances when not in use. Avoid using high power lambs for night lamps. Select lamps of suitable power for different rooms. Choose energy efficient devices for your needs.
- Grow your own veggies- Even with a small piece of land, you can
start cultivating some vegetables like brinjals, peas, tomatoes, chillis and the like. This will help you cut the cost of living and at the same time these plants will give you some fresher air too.
- Follow vegetarianism (as far as possible)

Why permanent links are better than paid ads?
From my past experience, I found that paid advertisements are not good for free services. Advertisements generally do not increase page ranks on Alexa or Google, it only increases the visitors to the site and is beneficial only if you are selling something for profit.
If you are running a free educational service provided online, the visitors who come to your site may not return at all in most cases. In the case of such services, getting permanent links from different sites will be more helpful.

Here are some suggestions to increase popularity of website without paying a penny
- Ensure that you post articles useful for the readers on a daily basis.
- Create a FaceBook page for your service and add maximum friends and update news about your services daily or multiple times a day.
- Join related forums and blogs and discuss giving NON SPAM links in a suitable manner.
- Publish excerpts to twitter.
- Join as many social networks as possible and make it a discussion about your posts and blogs in a pleasing manner.
- Highlight keywords (Google trends will help you find what the world is searching for) relevant to searches.
